Hyderabad, Jun 6 (UNI) Several IT companies, including Satyam and Infosys, declared holiday for its BPO employees today as the indefinite strike called by operators of cabs and private buses entered the second day.

The strike was launched to press the demand that the government withdraw 12.5 per cent VAT imposed on the operators with retrospective effect for the last five years.

Autorickshaws in the city also kept off the roads since midnight, demanding that the government hike the minimum fare to Rs 17 following the hike in fuel prices.

The city wore a deserted look as the frequency of bus services was also reduced due to bandh called by the Opposition parties in the state in protest against the fuel price hike.

An official of Satyam said,''we arranged transportation facility for our employees by hiring the state-owned Road Transport Corporation (RTC) buses yesterday. The IT employees, who are willing to come on their vehicles reported for duty. However, holiday is announced for our BPO employees,'' he added.

The official said the company was looking for alternatives to provide transportation facility to the employees from June 9.
