Congress in Kerala for no sales tax on petro products
Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 6 (UNI) The Congress in Kerala today urged the state government to do away with the sales tax on petroleum products to relieve people from the huge price hike.
''The state government should not just cut a portion of the sales tax that comes with the increase in the price, but do away with the entire tax,'' Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee President Ramesh Chennithala told reporters here.
Stating that almost all the states had come up with measures to reduce the burden on commonman due to the price hike, he lamented that Kerala was yet to announce such measures.
Stating that the government had earlier reduced the aviation tax to four per cent, Mr Chennithala said it should also think of measures to bring down the price for the poor people.
He alleged that the strike called by the Left parties to protest against the fuel price hike was ''politically motivated.
