Oestrogen could help prevent HIV in men
{image-world aids day_05062008.jpg news.oneindia.in}Melbourne, Jun 5: The female hormone oestrogen could help prevent HIV infections in men, according to Australian researchers. The researchers at Melbourne University found applying oestrogen cream to the male private part thickened the foreskin and provided a natural barrier to the spread of infection.
Prof Roger Short said the treatment could become an easy and cost-effective way to contain the spread of the AIDS virus. ''By applying oestrogen, you create a natural condom, a membrane that the virus can't get through,'' the Australian Broadcasting Corporation quoted him as saying.
