K'taka has released Rs 45 lakhs to combat Chikungunya

Bangalore, June 5 (UNI) The Karnataka government has so far released Rs 45 lakhs to combat Chikungunya in Dakshina Kannada where it is creating havoc, Minister Krishna Palemar said today.

Speaking to newspersons here, he said that as many as 5000 people were attacked from this communicable disease in three taluks of Dakshina Kannada and was feared to spread to other areas.

The District Health department has taken precautionary steps and over 40000 people were administered anti dosages in Bantwal, Sullia and Puttur taluks in the DK against Chikungunya which is likely to spread to Mangalore city and also Madikeri in Kodagu district, he added.

Mr Palemar said that the district administration have also sent a proposal to the state government to release Rs Two crore to contain sea erosion in Dakshina Kannada district. Every year hundreds of acres of mainland was being eroded due to sea and threatening number of dwelling houses and other properties. "A permanent solution against sea erosion needed to put in place" he added.
