Al-Qaeda owns-up to Danish embassy attack in Islamabad

Islamabad, June 5 - The Al-Qaeda today claimed responsibility for the explosion at the Danish Embassy in Islamabad on Monday.

SITE monitoring services said that al-Qaeda in several Internet statements claimed to have carried out a suicide attack on the Danish embassy in Islamabad which left at least six dead.

As quoted in the Dawn, Monday's attack was said to be a retributive action for publishing blasphemous cartoons of Prophet Mohammad in Danish newspapers, SITE said.

"One of the heroes of the 'Qaedat al-Jihad' carried out a suicide operation on the morning of Monday," said a statement signed by Mustafa Abu al-Yazid, an al-Qaeda. "This operation is a warning to the infidel state and those who ride with it, so that they are deterred from their sin and apologise for what they did," Yazid said.

SITE, which is a US-based group and monitors Islamic militant Internet websites and chat rooms, said the message was posted today in several forums.
