Remand of 12 terror suspects extended

Hubli, Jun4 (UNI) The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court here today further extended the remand of all 12 terror suspects, arrested from different locations of Karnataka and Indore in Madhya Pradesh, till June 18.

Police changed the timing of producing the suspect, lodged in Hindalaga prison at Belgaum and sub-jail, in the court to evening due to security reasons.

While seven of them, suspected operatives of Lashkar-e-Toiba and SIMI, were arrested in Karnataka early this year, the other five were nabbed by the Madhya Pradesh police.

The judge ordered the CoD to hand over five of the arrested to Indore jail authorities. After being arrested in that city, they were brought here by the CoD team for investigation. Since their presence was required in Indore for further investigation, the court permitted the Indore police to take their custody.

The judge also issued body warrants against five suspects, presently lodged in Indore jail, to be brought to Karnataka for further investigation.

The youth arrested in Indore had allegedly hatched plans to carry out blasts in Karnataka, Goa and other places in the country.

Counsel for the suspects, A A Savanur, submitted before the court that the case be transferred to the sessions court under Section 209 of CrPC. The judge called for objections on the submission before June 10.
