New members take oath in the name of Yeddyurappa, Mahatma Gandhi

Bangalore, Jun 4 (UNI) Two Bharatiya Janata Party members who were elected to Karnataka assembly stunned the house, which met here for the first time, by taking the oath in the name of G Janardhana Reddy, minister from Bellary here today.

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, who was first to call to take oath from the Chair, began the new precedent by taking the oath in the name of Farmers and god.

The first time legislator Nagendra (BJP) who got elected from Kottur in Bellary district took oath in the name of his 'mentor' and 'mine magnet' G Janardhana Reddy, contrary to official format of taking oath in the name of truth or god. "I solemnly affirm to discharge his duties in the name of G Janardhana Reddy," he said.

Similarly another BJP legislator from Nemiraj Nayak from Kudligi, followed suit and took oath in the name of Reddy, a powerful BJP leader from Bellary district, who has also been inducted into the cabinet by Yeddyurappa.

The newly elected legislator from Thirthahalli assembly seat Mr Kimmane Ratnakar (Cong) took oath in the name of late Socialist leader Shantaveri Gopala Gowda and former Chief Minister Kadidal Manjappa.

K M Krishnamurthy re-elected to Karnataka assembly from Kadur in Chickmagalur district exhibited his patriotism taking the oath in the name of Father of the Nation, Mahathma Gandhi, and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.

The controversial legislator M P Renukacharya (BJP) of Honnali, exhibited his loyalty to Chief Minister in no uncertain terms by taking oath in the name of Yeddyurappa, while Sunil Valyapur (BJP) followed suit.
