Hearing on Ahir's bail appliction deferred till June 12

Mumbai, Jun 4 (UNI) The MCOCA court here today adjourned till June 12, the hearing on the bail appliction of Vijay Ahir, nephew of gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli, in an extortion case.

When the matter was called for hearing before MCOCA court judge V G Joshi, the defence counsel sought time for the argument following which the judge adjourned the matter till June 12.

Ahir was arrested for allegedly extorting money from a builder during the period from October 2005 to May 2006.

The builder was allegedly brought to Dagdi Chawl, where Gawli resides, and was asked to pay up around Rs 50 lakh. The builder paid the money in two instalments.

Later, when the builder bagged a new project in Prabhadevi in November 2006, he again started receiving extortion calls and was again asked to visit Dagdi Chawl and more demands for money were placed before him. The builder subsequently lodged a complaint with the police.
