Eight killed as bus plunges into deep gorge

Coimbatore, Jun 4: At least eight people, includng the driver and conductor of a Government-owned, bus, were killed and more than 50 injured when the vehicle plunged into a deep gorge while crossing near the 36th hairpin bend on the Ooty-Kallati road in Niligiris district of Tamil Nadu today.

Police said people from the nearby areas rushed to the spot and carred out rescue operation.

More than 65 people were travelling in the bus when the mishap occurred.

Further details are awaited, police added.
