Badal wants special eco package for record wheat production
Chandigarh, June 4 (UNI) Patting the farmers of Punjab and Haryana for the record production of wheat this season, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal demanded that the two states be given a special central economic package for taking care of the agrarian crisis gripping the two states following the depletion of water and soil resources.
" I am ready to join hands with Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda for this demand", he said while addressing mediapersons here today.
Punjab procured over 105 lakh tonnes of paddy surpassing all previous records. Of the total procurement the state's contribution to the Central Food Pool was 99 lakh tonnes as against the promised 80 lakh tonnes.
The farmers of the two states need to be rewarded as they had taken care of the food shortage problem, he said. The country now need not spend huge amounts to import wheat, he added.
