AP to modernise Krishna Delta for irrigation in 13 lakh acre land

Hyderabad, Jun 4 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy will perform 'bhoomipooja' at Pulligadda on June 6 for modernisation of the Krishna Delta at a cost of Rs 4,573 crore.

Talking to newspersons here today, Irrigation Minister P Lakshmaiah said under the project, 21 irrigation packages would be taken up at a cost of Rs 2,464 crore and 10 drainage packages at a cost of Rs 1,057 crore.

After completion of the project, Irrigation would be possible in 13 lakh acre of lands, including lands in the tail-end areas, he claimed.

The Government would also take up modernisation of Nagarjuna Sagar Project, Thungabhadra High Level Canal and Nizamsagar Project, Mr Lakshmaiah said.

The Chief Minister would also take part in a farmers meet near the Pulichintla project site tomorrow and review the progress, he added.
