TRS Chief K Chandrasekara Rao resigns

Hyderabad, Jun 3: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) President K Chandrasekara Rao today resigned from his post, 'owning moral responsibility' for the reverses suffered by the party in the May 29 byelections. Party sources said Mr Rao, a former Union Minister, sent his resignation letter to party General Secretary Madhusudhana Chary this morning.

TRS party leaders rushed to the Telangana Bhavan, the party headquarters, on hearing the news. The TRS won seven Assembly seats out of 18 and 2 Lok Sabha seats out of four in the byelections. The by-elections in 16 of the Assembly constituencies and four Lok Sabha seats was necessitated after TRS MLAs and MPs resigned their membership in protest against the UPA Government's failure to grant statehood for Telangana. The statehood demand was included in the Common Minimum Programme.
