Troops start massive operation in south Kashmir, two ultras killed
Srinagar, Jun 3 (UNI) Troops today launched a massive operation against militants in south Kashmir, killing two ultras so far, a defence spokesperson said.
He said troops of 62,44, 31 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and four PARA today launched a joint operation at Sarpatheri, 10 km from Sadhua in Shopian district of south Kashmir, bordering Doda district, following information about the presence of militants there.
As the troops were moving forward, militants attacked them with automatic weapons, he said, adding the fire was returned and in the ensuing gun battle two militants were killed.
Two AK rifles and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the militants, he said adding the operation was still going on when the reports last came in.
