GJM hunger strike to continue: Binoy Tamang
Siliguri, June 3 (UNI) The Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) today stated that its activists would continue their indefinite hunger strike to demand grant of permission by the district administration to hold a public rally at Naxalbari in Siliguri.
GJM spokesperson Binoy Tamang said, ''Yesterday, 11 of our activists started a fast unto death in front of the Naxalbari BDO in Siliguri subdivision while two more joined the agitation today.'' Another 11 GJM supporters launched a hunger strike at Upper Bagdogra this morning, demanding permission to hold a public rally at Naxalbari in Siliguri, Mr Tamang added.
''We have sought permission from the district administration to hold a rally at Naxalabari, but the concerned authorities have not responded so far,'' he said.
Meanwhile, Darjeeling Superintendent of Police Rahul Srivastava said the GJM's strike was peaceful so far and all measures had been taken to prevent any untoward incident.
