Cong demands Central probe into 'misrule' in Punjab
Chandigarh, Jun 3 (UNI) Blaming the ruling SAD-BJP governmnet for deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab especially in view of violence in recently held elections, Punjab Congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira has urged the Union Home Ministery to form an inquiry commission to probe into all the "excesses committed" against the opposition party leaders in the state.
"Ever since the formation of SAD-BJP Government in the state, political vendetta has taken a front seat. We had taken up the issue of political victimisation of Congress leaders with the Punjab Governor, and have also taken the issue with the President and the Union Home Minister but unfortunately all these efforts have fallen on deaf ears," Said the Bholath MLA, in a release issued here today.
"Murder of three Congressmen on the day of polling on May 12, wielding of guns and batons, booth capturing and targeting opponents indicate total collapse of the constitutional machinery in the state," he said.
"The Government is squarely responsible for the deteriorating law and order situation," he alleged.
"I urge the Union Home Minister to take immediate cognizance of the total break down of the constitutional working in the state and appoint without further delay a commission of inquiry headed by no less than a sitting judge of the Supreme Court of India to probe into all the excesses committed during the 15 month rule of the SAD-BJP Government in Punjab," Mr Khaira said.
