Hyundai May sales up 51.1% at 40,261 units
New Delhi, June 2 (UNI) Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL), the country's second largest car manufacturer and the largest passenger car exporter, today said it has registered 51.1 per cent growth in its cumulative sales at 40,261 units for May this year.
The domestic market accounted for 24,510 units during last month, as compared to 16,643 units units during the corresponding period last year.
The firm said the exports registered sales of 15,751 units in May, whereas it was 10,005 units for the same period a year ago.
''In spite of slowdown in the industry due to higher interest rates, HMIL has been able to emerge with very strong figures primarily because of a very dominant presence in the compact segment where both our offerings Santro and the i10 are becoming the segment leaders,'' company Sr Vice President (Marketing and Sales) Arvind Saxena said in a statement.
The company has sold around 50,000 units of i10 in the first five months of the calendar year 2008, he added.
In the A2 segment comprising of Santro, i10 and Getz, there was cumulative sales of 34,328 units. Altogether, 5,874 units were sold in A3 Segment consisting of Accent and Verna.
It sold 14 units of Elantra in A4 segment, 41 units of Sonata Embera in A5 segment and four units of SUV segment.
