Female elephant found dead

Mysore, Jun 2 (UNI) A female elephant was found dead near a sugarcane farm in Metikuppa forest range in H D Kote taluk of the district today.

Forest officials said the 35-year-old elephant had bullet injuries on its forehead and might have been shot from close range.

H D Kote forest officer Radhakrishna visited the spot. The carcass was sent to Metikuppa Forest Range Veterinary Hospital for postmortem.

A case was registered under the Wildlife Animals Act, the officials added.
