Bangalore, Jun 1: The Southwest monsoon has Karnataka with Coastal and South interior districts receiving the first rains of the season last night, three days in advance.
Heavy rain was reported in South coastal districts and South interior parts of the state with Bangalore recording seven cm rain yesterday putting normal life out of gear.
According an official at the local IMD centre here the state would receive normal rainfall of around 82 cms, with coastal and Ghat areas receiving more than double this volume during the next four months.
Southwest monsoon has advanced over Coastal Karnataka and few more parts of South Interior Karnataka upto Chitradurga, he said.
Apart from Bangalore, Karwar, Ankola in Uttara Kannada district and Kottigehara in Chikmagalur also received heavy rain over the last 24 hours.
Rain or thundershowers would last vast areas in Coastal and South Interior and some places in North Interior Karnataka during the next two days, the official said.
The IMD centre had issued warning that heavy rain may occur at isolated places over Coastal Karnataka and Ghat areas of South Interior Karnataka during next 48 hours.
Fishermen were warned of strong offshore winds from westerly to south westerly direction speed reaching 45-55 kmph was likely along off Karnataka coast during the same time.
