Schemes for old age home in every dist gets Planning Commission nod
New Delhi, June 1 (UNI) The scheme for setting up one old-age home in every district is ready and the proposal will go to the Cabinet soon.
The Expenditure Finance Committee of the Planning Commission has given in principle approval to the scheme, an official of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment told UNI.
Each home will have the facility to house 150 senior citizens.
The Centre will give Rs two crore per project to the state government which will run the homes.
NGOs and Panchayati Raj Institutions like the Zila Parishads can also set up and run such homes, and they will be given Rs 27 lakh per project (for housing 25 senior citizens) by the Centre.
The official said the money would be provided in two installments for the purpose of monitoring. The second installment would be released only after inspection of the project by the central team to ensure that the grant was properly utilised.
