PDS to benefit 750 domestic workers

Shillong, June 01 (UNI) The Meghalaya Government has approved about 750 domestic workers of the total 2,000 registered names in the North Eastern Region Domestic Wrokers Movement(NERDWM) in the state as beneficiaries of BPL cards in the first list.

The NERDWM said though numbers in the first lise was minimal,still it was a fruitful achievement after a long struggle for about three years. With this approval of the state government, it would ensure food security for the members of the organisation.

The NERDWM thanked the state government for its steps that it approved the first list of domestic workers into the BPL categories.

It further hoped that the next list would be approved soon by the state government. The card would not only ensure food security to the domestic workers family but also to enable them to save and redirect their finances for the future and children's education.

The organisation today celebrated its firfth anniversary of the domestic workers movement.
