Governor deliveres lecture in Summer Law Programme
Shimla, Jun 1 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Governor V S Kokje today delivered a lecture on 'India's Legal Profession and Judicial Process in comparative Perspective' to the particpants of 13th Annual Summer Law Programme here.
The Summer Law Programme has been authorised by the Accreditation Committee of American Bar Association, Section of Legal Education.
The participants of the programme are drawn from all the Law Universities of United States of America and India.
Mr Kokje interacted with the students and faculty members and discussed various aspects of the India's legal profession and judicial process in comparative perspective.
"The profession of law has been a very important vocation in India. In the nineteenth and twentieth centuries it was the main profession adopted by a majority of educated Indians. It was, therefore, natural that most of the leaders of India's freedom movement belonged to the profession of law and lawyers were also in the forefront of social reform in India," he said.
He further said that "The main problem being faced by the Indian Judicial system today is the explosion of number of cases pending before various courts. Because of growing population, spread of awareness of rights and in the absence of alternate dispute resolution bodies the litigation has gone up." UNI AS PS JS1937
