BJP Executive held under heavy security
New Delhi, Jun 1 (UNI) An unprecendented security deployment was witnessed near the venue of the two-day BJP National Executive which began here today.
The authorities virtually turned the Parliament Annexe--the venue of the meeting-- and its surrounding areas into a fortress, with anti-riot and gun-toting police all over to ensure no untoward incident took place apparently in view of the violent Gujjar agitation in Rajasthan and NCR cities which left about 40 people dead.
The heavy checking not only caused inconvenience to the mediamen covering the event but also to the general public around the venue, and the Sansad Marg areas.
Besides, it also ended in a traffic jam with very slow movement of vehicles even as it was the week end and government offices in the vicinity were closed.
The Gujjars were, however, allowed to hold their protest meeting at Jantar Mantar that too in the presence of heavy posse of policemen.
