Young trade union workers protest corrupt recruitment process

Durgapur, May 31 (UNI) Work at Durgapur Steel Plant was affected today due to violent protests staged by the youth wings of major trade unions CITU and INTUC against the ''corrupt system'' of recruitment for the position of Planned Attendant cum Junior Technicians.

While, the youth wing of INTUC staged protests before the administrative office of the steel plant here, the CITU youth workers agitated in protest against selection of the wards of the trade union leaders in the written test held for the position of the Junior Technicians.

At least 3,000 local youths gathered here today and shouted slogans before the administrative building of the steel plant.

Joint Secretary of CITU-affiliated Steel Workers' Federation of India PK Das said, ''We want a fair policy here (Durgapur Steel Plant) to remove any doubt and distrust in the minds of local people and aspirant youths in particular in the interest of social and political harmony in and around Durgapur.

Meanwhile, Debsis Chaudhury, Joint Secretary of District Youth Congress(Industrial) said, ''We are protesting against such corrupt practices and demanding high level enquiry into the issue.'' UNI XC LL SY BD1612
