SP sets up team to probe Ferozabad firing incident

Lucknow, May 31 (UNI) Opposition Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav today constituted a fact-finding team into the Ferozabad firing incident during the Gujjar agitation.

The team would be led by Uttar Pradesh SP unit acting president Shivpal Singh Yadav. Leader of Opposition in Vidhan Parishad Ahmad Hassan, MP Ramji Lal Suman, former Vidhan Sabha speaker Mata Prasad Pandey and Vidhan Prishad member Khwaja Haleem would be its other members.

At least 15 people, including 11 policemen, had sustained serious injuries when police opened fire on the Gujjar agitators after they went on a rampage and resorted to brick-batting in Ferozabad yesterday.

To investigate the matter, the team would visit the place tomorrow and submit its report within three days.

''The SP has always supported reservation to Gujjars. Six months back, the party passed a resolution for the same,'' the SP sources said.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led-Rajasthan government misguided Gujjar community by promising them Scheduled Tribe (ST) status and doing nothing, the SP alleged.
