Bhubaneswar, May 30 (UNI) For the first time the employees of the Engineering Shops of Rourkela Steel Plant(RSP) have developed Steel Transfer Car for the Steel Melting Shop-II and a 140-Ton Hot Metal ladle for the Blast Furnaces.

The two key equipment were inaugurated by RSP Managing Director B N Singh at the Structural and Fabrication Shop this morning.

These two equipment used to be procured from the market earlier.

Mr Singh expressed immense happiness over the outstanding jobs and announced a cash award of Rs 50,000 for all the employees who have contributed in accomplishing the projects.

The Steel Transfer Car weighing about 50 Tons was developed at the Structural and Fabrication Shop, Mechanical Shop and Repair Shop Mechanical (RSM) with the support of Design department, Field Machinery Maintenance and Civil Engineering Services.

At present two Steel Transfer Cars are in operation at the SMS-II. As these cars have become old after years of operation, the new car will support the logistics in a big way during any break down or exigency, RSP sources said.

The 140 ton ladle weighing about 19.5 Tons has been developed by the Structural and Fabrication Shop. To procure a 140-ton Hot Metal Ladle would cost the RSP about Rs 46 lakhs while a Steel Transfer Car costs about Rs 1 crore.

The Steel Plant has accrued a saving of about Rs 77 lakhs with the development of these two equipment.
