EVMs to be used in district councils polls

Shillong, May 30 (UNI) The Meghalaya government has decided to use Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in the three autonomous district councils elections slated next year.

Elections to the three districts--Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council, Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council and Garo Hills Autonomous District Council is likely to be held next year.

District Council Affairs Minister Paul Lyngdoh said expenditure for the EVMs would be shared both by the state government and respective councils.

While the state government will bear 75 per cent of the cost, the district councils will provide the rest, he informed.

The decision in this regard was taken at a meeting between council heads and Deputy Commissioners here.
