Plywood factory gutted at Dumdum

Barrackpore, May 29 (UNI) A substantial quantity of plywood and other materials were gutted in a large plywood factory at Nagerbazar area under Dumdum police station in North 24 Parganas early today.

The fire broke out shortly after 0300 hours in the factory which spread rapidly.

Fire brigade sources said 20 fire tenders battled for more than three hours to douse the flames.

No casualty was reported in the incident, the sources said.

The firemen were still continuing their efforts as the factory has huge stock of huge combustible articles, including wood, resin and other chemicals.

However, the cause of the blaze and the extent of loss could not yet be ascertained.
