Women who never saw television!

Islamabad, May 29: With the Internet and the telecommunications sector advancing like never before, it is hard to believe that there some parts of Pakistan where people don't even know what a television looks like. According to the Daily Times, there are two small villages in the Gorakh Hills area, one in the limits of Sindh province and the other in Balochistan, where women have never seen a television.

Nabi Bux, Shah Muhammad, Faqir Muhammad and others belonging to the Arkhani tribe of Baloch are settled on the Sindh side, and they told the Daily Times that they could watch TV, but their women do not. They said that the men go to an old rest house daily to watch TV but because there is no cable service, they only watch PTV. They can only access the other TV channels whenever they go down to the nearby town of Wahi Pandhi in Dadu District.

According to them, their children do not go school as all schools are out of reach. They bring drinking water from the Hinger stream 12 kilometres down the hill, and they say they need four to five days to get groceries from Wahi Pandhi town.
