Man arrested at NSCBI for attempting to hide nations of visit

Kolkata, May 29 (UNI) A passenger arriving here at NSCBI airport from Bangkok was detained by immigration authorities this morning for tampering with his passport.

Officials discovered that Pardeep Singh (21) of Firozpur, Punjab, had effaced rubber stamps of immigration authorities of the countries he had visited.

An immigration official stated that his passport bore departure and arrival stamps of the authorities of Indira Gandhi airport of 22/02/08 and 08/03/08 respectively.

During his prolonged interrogation, Singh revealed that he paid Rs seven lakhs to one Dishant Singh, also from Punjab, who promised him jobs in Spain and Italy and who also helped him go to Malaysia and Singapore twice.

On the former occasion, this man had also accompanmied to both these countries, Singh claimed.

Singh was arrested immidiately after the interrogation.
