Gujjar community protest spreads to Maharashtra
Jalgaon, Maharashtra, May 29 (UNI) The Gujjar agitation for recognition as a Scheduled tribe has spread to Maharashtra with ''Rasta Roko'' agitations being staged by members of the Gujjar community in different parts of Jalgaon and Bhusawal districts of the state today.
As many as 61 protesters were arrested during the agitation in Pachora and Raver, police said. The protesters had blocked the Burhampur-Ankaleshwar highway, police added.
The agitation in the district started yesterday. About 100 protesters, including Maharashtra Gujjar Samaj President Shivajirao Patil and Shiv Sena MLA Gulabroa Patil were arrested after they blocked the National Highway no 6 near Ajanta Square in Jalgaon city yesterday.
The protesters were later released, police said.
