FB asks CPI(M) to refrain from thrusting dev models on people

Kolkata, May 29(UNI) Holding the CPI(M) responsible for disunity within the ruling Left Front that largely contributed to its poor showing in the panchayat elections in West Bengal, the Forward Bloc has advised the big brother to recognise dissent and refrain from thrusting development models on the people.

" The CPI(M), the leading party of the Left Front, should recognise that dissent has a place in a democracy. The strength of the Left unity is the democracy," the party said in a resolution adopted at its two-day Central Secretariat meeting that concluded here yesterday.

While admitting that the increasing discontent among the Left partners had reflected in the poll results, the party also urged the CPI(M) to avoid discussion after implementation and reinstate the old practice of implementation after discussion.

The forceful acquisition of cultivable land for industrial purpose, the 'miserable' condition of the minorities and SC/ STs and 'poor implementation' of central and state sponsored welfare programmes for the rural areas were among the main reasons of the unsatisfactory results, it observed.

" The Left Front of West Bengal should realise that development models cannot be forced on people and the rulers should take the people into confidence before setting out to implement the state agenda," the party said.

The party said a more cohesive and transparent coordination among the Left parties would only be able to retrieve its political credibility in the state.
