Sugar prices rise on fresh bulk consumers demand

Navi Mumbai, May 28 (UNI) Prices of wholesale sugar today recovered by Rs 15 per quintal on increased consumers and retailers demand, induced by reduced stock arrivals from co-operative mills, traders at the Bombay Sugar Merchants Association said.

Prices of small and medium grades rose by Rs 15 and Rs ten per quintal respectively on lack of offers by stockists in the face of lesser ready stocks at the terminal markets.

Similarly, prices of ex-mill small and medium grades also gained by Rs five each, on scattered demand from dealers in the face of reduced ready stocks at the domestic centres, traders added.

Following are the spot wholesale rates of sugar per quintal: Small grade: Rs 1,458/1,510, Medium grade: Rs 1,485/1,570.

Ex-mill small grade: Rs 1,435/1,460 and medium grade: Rs 1,455/1,498.
