LeT div commander, militant wife killed in Doda encounter

Jammu, May 28 (UNI) Top commander of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), who had masterminded the infamous Kulhand massacre of minority Hindu population in 2006, and his militant wife were gunned down by security forces in the mountainous Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir today, a spokesman said.

LeT self-styled 'divisional commander' Ahmed Atto, alias Abu Yasir and his militant wife Shabrina Bano were killed at Khandepura, near Gundna in Doda district this afternoon, Defence spokesman Lt Col S D Goswami told UNI.

The operation was jointly conducted by the troops of 8 Rashtriya Rifles (MADRAS) and state police.

One AK-47 rifle and a pistol besides war-like stores were recovered from the encounter site, the spokesman said.

The militant was involved in the Kulhand massacre, wherein over two dozen Hindus were shot dead in 2006, Lt Col Goswami added.
