Amar Singh meets Sanjay Dutt in Mumbai
Mumbai, May 28 (UNI) Samajwadi party general secretary Amar Singh today met Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt at his residence in suburban Bandra here, triggering speculation about the possible entry of the latter in active politics.
When asked about the motive of Mr Singh's visit to Mr Dutt's residence and whether the actor was joining the party, city SP chief Abu Asim Azmi told UNI ''I don't know about the talks between the two. But if Sanjay Dutt wants to join the party, he is welcome''.
However, Mr Azmi said Mr Singh met the actor to congratulate him after a city court allowed his revision application, quashing the lower court's order with regard to his marriage with Manyata.
It may be recalled that both Mr Azmi and Mr Dutt were arrested in the 1993 bomb blast case. Mr Azmi was booked for his involvement in the case but later he was discharged by the apex court.
Mr Azmi is now a Rajya Sabha MP from Uttar Pradesh.
Mr Dutt was arrested in the blast case for possessing and destroying an A K 47 rifle. The designated TADA court had convicted him under the arms act but later he was granted bail by the Apex court.
Mr Singh is known for his Bollywood links and makes it a point to attend parties in the city. His party has so far made two film personalities MPs. While actress Jaya Bachchan was sent to Rajya Sabha by the SP, the south Indian actress Jayaprada had sucessfully contested the 2004 general elections from Rampur in Uttar pradesh on the SP ticket.
