Yale University confers doctorate to Pachauri

{image-rk pachauri_27052008.jpg news.oneindia.in}New Delhi, May 27: Yale University has honoured environmentalist R K Pachauri with the degree of 'Doctor of Humane Letters'.

''As a leading voice on climate change, he has been a builder of bridges-- from scientific evidence to public policy, from developed to developing countries,'' a statement issued by the 300-year-old US University said here today. ''And as a leader of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, he brought the world's scientific community together to sound the alarm about the future of our planet,'' the statement added.

Along with Dr Pachauri, former Beatles' star Paul McCartney, US Trade Reprsentative Carla Hills and astronomer Martin Rees were also given honorary degrees.

The Intergovernmental Panel shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with former US Vice-President Al Gore.
