Kathmandu, May 27 : Maoists prevented the Nepal Human Rights Commission (NHRC) from entering Shaktikhor Cantonment in Chitwan in the course of investigating the mysterious murder of Ram Hari Shrestha who was killed by the Maoist Peoples' Liberation Army (PLA) in captivity.

According to Kantipur, as the NHRC team from Kathmandu reached the cantonments last Saturday to conduct an investigation, the combatants there did not allow them inside the cantonment. The team then returned to Kathmandu without completing its mission.

"NHRC has received a report that our team was not allowed to enter the cantonments for investigation. It is a serious matter," said NHRC Chairman Kedar Nath Upadhyaya.

According to an NHRC Commissioner, the team wanted to document statements from the Maoist combatants, including Bibidh, the prime suspect who is yet to be arrested though his party suspended him, in connection with Shrestha's death.
