BJP minority morcha demands CBI probe

Mumbai, May 27 (UNI) The Mumbai BJP minority morcha today demanded a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities in the transfer of Wakf properties across the State.

A delegation of the minority morcha met the Governor S C Jamir and handed over a memorandum to him, demanding the probe. The memorandum also mentioned about the transfer of chief executive officer of Wakf Rauf Shaikh.

The delegation, led by its Mumbai president Haider Azam, claimed that the transfer order of the CEO was illegal and against the Wakf Act, which allows its members to issue transfer order with consent after the officer completes a minimum three-year-term or the Chief Minister passes order to transfer him. However, in the present case the transfer order was issued by an officer below the rank of CEO.

The members of the delegation said the former CEO had also filed a petition in the Bombay High court against business tycoon Mukesh Ambani, who had allegedly occupied Wakf property at a very low rate in a prime area of the metropolis.

The officer had started a drive against the alleged malpractices in the Wakf Board, which resulted in his transfer, the members alleged in the memorandum.

The Governor was also informed that Wakf land, admeasuring 13 acre, was leased out to the brother of Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.
