Polling begins for IInd ph of Punjab Panchayat polls

Chandigarh, May 26: Polling for the second phase of Punjab Panchayat polls began today amidst tight security. Around one crore fifty-one lakh rural voters are expected to decided the fate of village Panches for nearly 12,000 Panchayats. Elected Panches will further elect village head known as Sarpanch from among themselves after notification of Panchayat election.

As many as 80,000 employees have been pressed into service for smooth conduct of polls. The results will be out this evening. The first phase of polling for the 324 members of 20 Zila Parishads and 141 members of Panchayat Samitis in 12,705 villages was held on May 12.
