Prime Minister offers Rs 1 lakh to family of photo journalist
Jammu, May 25 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has offered Rs 1 lakh to the family of Ashok Sodhi, chief photographer of Daily Excelsior newspaper, who was killed while covering the encounter between security forces and militants at Samba on May 11.
In a letter to the Editor-in-Chief of Daily Excelsior S D Rohmetra, the Prime Minister expressed shock over the demise of photo journalist and conveyed heartfelt condolences to his family members.
''I would like to offer a sum of Rs 1 Lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund to help the family,'' Mr Singh said in the letter.
He said he was happy to learn that the newspaper management had assured a monthly compensation of Rs 10,000 to the wife of Mr Sodhi for the rest of her life.
