Couple ties nuptial knot for thalassemic patient
Basirhat, May 25 (UNI) Signifying the sanctity of marriage as an auspicious beginning of a new life, a newly wed couple has decided to save life of a six-year-old thalassemic.
Sanjit and Rupsa Sen of Sainpala of the Basirhat area in North 24 Parganas have given a message to the society to help the needy, downtrodden and deprived children by supporting them by some means or other.
The newly married have stood by the thalassemic patient and donated Rs 12,000 for his treatment from the cash they got during their marriage yesterday.
''We had asked our relatives and friends to give cash instead of kind. We accumulated Rs 12,000 from the reception party for the kid,'' Sanjit Sen told UNI.
''We had also saved a considerable amount by curtailing the expenditure by arranging a single function instead of two,'' Rupsa said, adding that their main concern was to collect money for Ayush Mukherjee.
The couple was inspired following repeated appeals in a vernacular daily for the poor boy, whose life was at stake.
