Thiruvananthapuram, May 24 (UNI) The Kerala Government has ordered a vigilance probe against Balram Kumar Upadhyaya, former Police Commissioner of Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode, into his alleged involvement in corruption and accepting bribe for settling cases.

The decision for ordering vigilance probe follow's the findings in the preliminary investigation that he was involved in a case related to harassment against a women employee working in a jewellery shop at Kozhikode, Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishan told newspersons here today.

The said incident took place when Mr Upadhyaya was the Commissioner at Kozhikode. It was alleged that he had accepted bribe from the Jewellery owner to divert the case as employment dispute, instead of harassment with the help of some women cops.

It was also alleged that he had played a key role in allotting quarters to police, violating the seniority norms and accepted bribe from constables, deputing them to post traffic duty.

Mr Balakrishnan also said that the Government had also received Vigilance report against Industry Director T O Sooraj.
