THRO accuses Tripura police of nexus with criminals
Agartala, May 24 (UNI) Tripura Human Rights Organisation (THRO) has demanded a Superintendent of Police-level inquiry into the recent dual murders and police atrocities on a labourer here.
THRO secretary Purshuttam Roy Barman has accused the police of having a nexus with the mafias and other anti-socials.
He also alleged that there was a spurt in the incidents of human rights violation in the state and stressed on the need to set up a State Human Rights Commission.
He also criticised the state government's argument on the issue and said, ''Police Accountability Commission can't be a substitute of Human Rights Commission.'' ''Police refuses to accept FIR in most of the cases even though it is mandatory, despite our repeated plea to the government, the situation not changed yet,''they alleged.
THRO also pointed out that alleged custodial death of Biswajit Banik after being tortured by some miscreants for three days. Banik, who was detained by the police n a critical condition, died after being denied any treatment.
The organisation also pointed out the incident of physical assault of a labourer by some miscreants near a police station alleging that police did not take any action.
The THRO has also demanded exemplary punishment of Officer In-Charge of Khupilong outpost in south Tripura Subal Dey, who had assaulted on Ranjit Sarkar for not giving him ten kgs of meat and some cash as bribe.
