Nitish orders speedy implementation of flood protection schemes
Patna, May 24 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today directed the concerned officers and engineers to complete the flood protection schems within stipulated timeframe before the onset of monsoon.
In a review meeting through video conferencing with District Magistrates of flood-prone areas, Mr Kumar said the measures to check the erosion of embankments along the rivers in North Bihar should be taken at the earliest.
The state government would ensure that works did not get hampered due to paucity of fund, he added.
'' The lasting solution to the perennial flood menace is being explored at various levels and interlinking of rivers could be helpful in abating the flood fury, '' he said.
Mr Kumar urged the Centre to innitiate dialogue with Nepal for construction of a 'high dam' there as it would mitigate the flood problem to a great extent and also help in generation of electricity to tune of 80,000 MW.
