Miraculous escape for bus passengers

Chennai, May 24 (UNI) About 30 passengers of a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) bus had a narrow escape when the vehicle was hit by a train at an unmanned level crossing at Akkalmadam near Pamban in the southern tip of Rameswaram, about 600 kms from here.

Reports received here said, the driver of the bus-- heading for Kundhukal from Pamban last evening -- applied brakes all of a sudden after one of the passengers alerted him.

However, some passengers suffered minor injuries when the front portion of the bus collided with the Rameswaram-bound train from Madurai at the level crossing.

The bus almost neared the railway gate, avoiding a major accident.
