Body of one kid retrieved so far, 5 drown in Muran dam

Jeypore, Orissa, May 24 (UNI) Police today informed that body of one of the five children, drowned in the Muran dam of Indravati river here, has been retrieved so far and efforts are one to recover others.

The mishap occurred yesterday when a country boat ferrying the victims got caught in a hailstorm and capsized.

About eight kids, all in the age group of 10 to 12 years, were returning from Karlaghat near here after attending a local festival.

The boat suddenly caught in the hailstorm and capsized in the Muran dam. Four children were swept away in the string current of the water.

The locals could manage to rescue four others but one of them died while being taken to the shore. The three others had been admitted to a local hospital, police said.
