Bihar government gets pat from Planning Commission

Patna, May 24 (UNI) The Planning Commission has appreciated the performance of the Bihar government in implementation of various welfare and development schemes in the state.

A delegation of the Planning Commission, led by Mr B K Chaturvedi, called on Chief Minister Nitish Kumar at his residence last night and discussed about the progress of several schemes being implemented in the state.

'' Recognising the importance of several innovative steps taken by the Bihar government for improving the living standard of weaker sections and also women empowerment, '' Mr Chaturvedi said similar steps could be taken by other states as well to get the desired result in the respective sectors.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar informed the delegates of the Planning Commission that the state government had recently launched an ambitious road-map with investment of Rs 65,000 crore to take the vast potential of agriculture sector in the state.

As a first step towards realising the dream, the state government had distributed superior quality seeds to the farmers at subsidised rates which would increase the yields of foodgrains considerably in Bihar.

Mr Kumar said the government had also taken several steps to improve the female literacy level as well as women empowerment in the state.

Medical facilities in government hospitals in far-flung areas had dramatically improved during the last two years and it was evident from the increase in number of patient seeking treatment at these hospitals, he added.
