Young Bangladeshi girl rescued
Mumbai, May 23 (UNI) The city police today rescued a 22-year-old Bangladesh girl, who was forced into prostitution, and arrested a brothel owner in this connection.
Acting on a tip-off that a young girl was forced into prostitution in the redlight area of Lamington Road in South Central Mumbai, police officials of D B Marg police station conducted a raid at Jamuna Sadan near Dreamland Cinema and rescued Meena hailing from Bangladesh. They also arrested the brothel owner.
During interrogation, the brothel owner, Deepa, told police that Meena was sold to her by a pimp Raju for Rs 12,000.
A case has been registerd against Deepa and Raju under section 3, 4, 5 and 7(1)(b) of Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act (PITA).
Deepa was arrested, while Raju is absconding, police said, adding, the brothel owner was later produced in the Girgaum court here, which remanded her to police custody till May 30.
The victim was sent to the women's shelter home for care and protection.
