Sugar prices rise on lesser stock supply by mills

Navi Mumbai, May 23 (UNI) Prices of wholesale sugar today rose by Rs 15 per quintal on lack of offloading by stockists in the face of lesser stock arrivals from co-operative mills, traders at the Bombay Sugar Merchants Association said.

Prices of small and medium grades of sugar went down by Rs 15 and Rs 10 per quintal respectively on improved demand from bulk consumers and retailers.

Similarly, prices of ex-mill small and medium grades also gained by Rs 20 each, on sustained demand from dealers in the face of reduced ready stocks at the domestic centres, traders added.

Following were the spot wholesale rates of sugar per quintal: Small grade: Rs 1,449/1,510, Medium grade: Rs 1,474/1,575.

Ex-mill small grade: Rs 1,437/1,475 and medium grade: Rs 1,465/1,510.
