Situation doesn't warrant any hike in petrol : BJP
New Delhi, May 23 (UNI) Taking note of the international situation of petroleum prices where a barrel of crude has touched 135 dollars, the BJP today said the Government can tide over the situation without resorting to any hike.
BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar said a barrel of crude at the present cost should not exceed Rs 32 a litre whereas the Government was already charging Rs 50 after bearing the costs of transport and refining. The Government would do well by reducing importy duty and ask the states to reduce taxes. The governments should not look at petroleum sales as a source to enrich itself by fleecing the consumers, he remarked.
