Record wheat procurement, crosses 20.7 MT mark

New Delhi, May 23 (UNI) Wheat procurement by government agencies has crossed the 20.71 million tonne mark.

Government agencies have procured 20,710,168 tonnes of wheat, as of yesterday. Last year, the total wheat procurement was 11.13 million tonnes.

The earlier record -- achieved in 2001-02 -- was 20.63 MT.

Procurement of wheat by government agencies including Food Corporation of India will continue as long as farmers offer wheat at the Minimum Support Price fixed at Rs 1,000 a quintal.
